Anna Nicole Smith at the US Supreme Court

Just to digress a bit from the hotbed of Philippine issues and other serious American political concerns.

It is not everyday that a former stripper/Playboy centerfold/model, who marries a really rich, old guy who dies, gets to go before the judges of the US Supreme Court. But Anna Nicole Smith did today and there was hoopla and excitement over her court appearance. (Hello? ANS is as exciting as they come for stuffy courtrooms. And don’t you just love the US for their priorities?)
I don’t understand the shenanigans surrounding the case. I am only beginning to understand the American political system and the judiciary is something that I still can’t quite grasp yet except for the really basic stuff.
But trust wonkette to provide coverage, right, front and center on the legal proceedings, among other things:

Well, at least “that guy” is identifiable as somebody. Polls show that 57 percent of Americans can’t even name a single Supreme Court justice, to say nothing of recognize one on the street. But Anna Nicole Smith — she’s a household name.
