Cookie vs Archie in the American Idol Season 7 finale

I’m supposed to be asleep, as I am catching a really early flight. But, I reckon, it would be unfair for me not to write about American Idol’s Season 7 finale.

Not after I all but gave up on writing about other stuff on this blog when I was on my soul searching hiatus of sorts except for American Idol entries that I made sure I wrote no matter what.

Not after I had consistently live-blogged (I think I did) all previous AI finales since the start of this blog.

Not after I endured my family’s bickering over who was better: Archuleta, who is adored by the tween, mom and grandma sets, and Cook, who is adored, by, well, my sister and I and those who like his style of music.

So here is a belated post about the finale before I find out who wins in a few hours.

I think that Simon was quite unfair. Granted that Archie sang his heart out and looked like he was going to pass out anytime. Granted that Archie picked the right songs. Granted that Archie wasn’t bad, not bad at all.

But Simon should have acknowledged Cookie’s different style compared to Archie. David Cook is David Cook, all in a league of his own. He made pop songs sound cool. In the finale, he rocked! The thing is, rockers don’t really win singing competitions. They only pack concert venues and sell out records (think Daughtry).

So if AI is just about fitting the mold of the usual pop star, then Archuleta deserves to win. And the producers deserve his rumored stage father. Serves them right for the over commercialization of the franchise.

But, if Dial an Idol is worth their weight in Internet clicks, then David Cook will probably emerge as the winner, as they predict.

Side story. My sister furiously voted for David Cook for hours. And I mean serious hours. Don’t ask me how she did it, but she was able to.

Dear David Cook, I will buy your CDs. You just go ahead and record an album. And if you don’t get the title, it’s okay. Remember Reuben and Fantasia and Taylor Hicks and most recently Jordin Sparks. And then, look at Daughtry.

If you win AI, it’s okay too. At least, you’ll make my sister happy.
