Because my schedule was thoroughly hectic, I was only able to catch the two-hour season finale of American Idol 7 last Sunday (unbelievable, right?). But I was glad I was able to. Better late than never.
For me, it was the best finale ever. Definitely better than the Jordin Sparks-Blake Lewis joke of a season. And while we’re on Jordin Sparks, what was she thinking, wearing that gold dress? It made her look bigger and older and she’s supposed to be all of 18.
I loved the Seal-Syesha duet. I liked the Brooke White duet with the old guy from Steel and Nash. Best of all, I loved, loved the Carly Smithson-Michael Johns duet. They simply rocked, both of them. It was like watching them in a real, live concert (oh wait, it was a real, live concert!). They’re probably going to wow fans during their Idol tour, which promises to be an interesting event. They should have a single on each other’s album, if and when they release one.
Why did they let Jason Castro sing alone, and a repeat of a song from the season for that matter?
They had George Michael. George Michael!
And best segment of all, they had Gladys Knight and the three comedic pips, Ben Stiller, my favorite Jack Black, and Robert Downey, Jr., who I’m glad is back from the dead. I loved that segment with the two Davids and Mike Myers too.
So Cook won. Hooray! I already downloaded his single. I am almost sorry I won’t get to see him perform live. I think he’ll be awesome. But we never know, he might make his way to my neck of the woods.
Was able to catch the interview of the Idols on Larry King Live. Sigh. Larry King is old, too old, he mangled Jason’s name and called him Jordin. Too old, he asked Archie whether he preferred Vegas over Broadway. What the…? AI is the search for a pop idol and they join so they can make albums and perform in pop-style concerts. Not on the Vegas strip ala Donnie and Marie because they’re no Celine Dion, or not on Broadway, unless they really want to be challenged with the singing and dancing and the acting. There are only a few roles for Clay Aikens and Spamalot is already his (Aiken was a riot when I watched Spamalot).
So far, this has been the best season of idol, ever.

I voted for him three times. I really, REALLY didn’t want Archuleta to win!
