Frustration on the domestic front. All my stuff is all over the place, I want to get organized, but I end up getting distracted by something. Or other. Plus, I made flan, but it’s not magical anymore. I’m not doing something right, but I seem to be. I probably just need to refocus and start afresh.
On the really bright side, I’m loving my flat screen TV. Maybe I should just watch videos?
Speaking of watching, I’m working my way through The Sopranos Season 3 but need to get a new DVD player or a universal remote control as the DVD player I have now is missing the essential remote to play the episodes without incident and get rid of the subtitles which are driving me nuts.
Also watched “Rachel Getting Married.” Have “The Reader” already, will watch it soon.
“Rachel” has interesting camera work, I should say. I was telling my friend that the treatment was very docu-film, which added to the character of the movie. Can’t say I was bowled over by Anne Hathaway’s performance though. She was good, interesting, but not exactly brilliant. I don’t think she had a shot at winning an Oscar and I’m surprised that she was nominated. I couldn’t get over her hair in the movie. Was it a wig? I think it was. It was awful.
The story was nothing new. Families who have addicts go through drama and theirs was a typical family drama. The death of the brother only added more melodrama, which I think distracted from what could have been a very natural plot. Oh well.
To wash away the depression of “Rachel,” I watched “The Librarian Curse of the Judas Chalice.” I picked up the DVD because I watched the first “Librarian” and found it geeky, corny but interesting. I also watched it a very depressing time in my life, when I got a call from my mom saying that my dad had a heart attack and I couldn’t leave the States to fly home. When I’m majorly upset about something, I try to find an escape and that time, the escape meant going to a DVD store and picking up a movie that would help cheer me up.
When I did an online search, found out that Judas Chalice is Part 3 of the librarian series on TNT. Which means that I have to look for King’s Solomon’s Mines, Part 2, which has Gabrielle Anwar.
Surprised to see Jonathan Frakes credited as director, he of the “Star Trek the Next Generation” series, which I watched growing up.
Vampires and the quest for the chalice, including an emotional breakdown from the dear old dependable librarian. Entertaining enough movie if you just want mindless escape for a few hours. And it doesn’t hurt that Noah Wylie is cute in a boyish sort of way.
